The 1500bhp JCB Dieselmax has passed 300mph in a test run for its diesel land speed record attempt. The sleek racer – powered by twin diesel engines each producing 750bhp – touched 308.252mph yesterday (Thursday 17 August). That smashes the current diesel car world record of 235.756mph, set in 1973.

Well, you wouldn’t expect Peugeot to forget to bring along their replacement for the Peugeot 407 (not to mention the ‘Only sells in France’ 607) to their home motor show, so the Peugeot stand got not just the saloon version of the new Peugeot 508 but a 508 Estate too. We already know that Peugeot is going to throw almost every engine – petrol and diesel – it has in its arsenal at the 508. so you’ll be able to grab a 508 with anything from a 1.6 litre e-HDi FAP to a 2.2 litre HDi FAP 204bhp.
BMW 7 Series update
Three years after its debut BMW has announced the mid-life revision of the 7 Series, due for launch in spring 2005. The update includes exterior styling enhancements, interior fine-tuning, dynamic developments and a range of new engines. From the front, there is a new headlamp and bumper design, changes to the kidney grilles and enhancement of the power dome on the hood to give the car a more powerful face.
